Als Nederlandse modefreak vind ik het geweldig om te zien hoe ons kleine land zulke grote namen heeft voortgebracht in de modewereld. Van experimenteel design tot tijdloze elegantie, Nederlandse ontwerpers hebben een unieke signatuur die wereldwijd wordt herkend. Laat me je mee nemen langs mijn persoonlijke favorieten die je echt moet kennen.
1. Iris van Herpen
Wat mij altijd weer raakt aan het werk van Iris van Herpen is hoe zij technologie en kunst combineert tot iets dat nog niemand eerder heeft gezien. Haar 3D-geprinte jurken zijn sculpturen die je kunt dragen, en ze laat zien wat de toekomst van mode kan zijn. Als je haar werk nog niet kent, moet je echt eens kijken hoe zij met laser cutting en innovatieve materialen werkt.
2. Viktor & Rolf
Dit duo is synoniem voor Nederlandse high fashion, en ik ben altijd geïntrigeerd door hun speelse benadering van couture. Hun “wearable art” collecties, zoals de beruchte “No” jurken, laten zien dat mode ook humor kan hebben. Viktor Horsting en Rolf Snoeren zijn meesters in het doorbreken van conventies terwijl ze toch wearable stukken creëren.
3. Jan Taminiau
Jan Taminiau is voor mij de koning van de Nederlandse couture, en zijn samenwerking met koningin Máxima zegt genoeg. Zijn gebruik van ambachtelijke technieken zoals borduren en beadwork is ongeëvenaard in Nederland. Wat ik zo waardeer aan zijn werk is hoe hij traditionele ambachten combineert met een moderne esthetiek.
4. Marloes ten Bhömer
Marloes ten Bhömer is een ontwerpster die grenzen verlegt, letterlijk en figuurlijk. Haar architecturale benadering van schoenontwerp is baanbrekend, en ik vind het fascinerend hoe zij schoenen meer ziet als kleine sculpturen dan als louter functionele items. Als je houdt van design dat je doet nadenken over wat een schoen kan zijn, moet je haar werk zeker bekijken.
5. Liselore Frowijn
Liselore Frowijn is een jonge ontwerpster wiens werk ik absoluut bewonder. Haar kleurgebruik is opvallend en haar collecties zijn altijd een feest voor de ogen. Ze studeerde af aan de ArtEZ hogeschool voor de kunsten en heeft sindsdien haar stempel gedrukt op de Nederlandse modescene met haar vrolijke, vrouwelijke ontwerpen.
6. Bas Kosters
Bas Kosters is voor mij een van de meest interessante figuren in de Nederlandse mode. Zijn werk is speels, kleurrijk en vaak een beetje controversieel, en dat maakt het juist zo leuk. Hij is niet bang om maatschappelijke thema’s in zijn werk te verwerken, en zijn pop-art esthetiek is onmiskenbaar.
7. Truus Hoosemans
Truus Hoosemans is een naam die je misschien niet direct kent, maar haar werk als kostuumontwerpster heeft de Nederlandse mode wereldwijd beïnvloed. Haar werk voor film en televisie toont aan hoe kostuums een verhaal kunnen vertellen, en ik vind het inspirerend hoe zij historische elementen combineert met moderne technieken.
8. Francisco van Benthum
Francisco van Benthum is een ontwerper wiens menswear ik echt waardeer. Zijn aandacht voor detail en zijn unieke take op mannenmode maken hem een belangrijk figuur in de Nederlandse modescene. Hij laat zien dat mannenmode allesbehalve saai hoeft te zijn.
9. Judith van Veen
Judith van Veen is de creative director van het merk Mnologie, en haar werk is een perfect voorbeeld van hoe Nederlandse minimalisme toch krachtig kan zijn. Haar ontwerpen zijn clean, modern en tijdloos, en ik vind het altijd indrukwekkend hoe ze met eenvoudige vormen toch zo’n impact maakt.
10. Piet Paris
Oké, Piet Paris is technisch gezien een illustrator, maar zijn invloed op de Nederlandse modewereld is enorm. Zijn tekeningen hebben een bepaalde elegantie die de essentie van mode perfect weet te vangen, en vele Nederlandse ontwerpers hebben met hem samengewerkt. Voor mij is hij de ultieme mode-illustrator van ons land.
