De SVB publiceert jaarlijks zijn lijsten, en de Volkskrant schrijft er met wanhopig enthousiasme over. Maar achter deze ogenschijnlijk onschuldige data schuilt een verontrustende werkelijkheid die we liever negeren.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>1. De Liam-plaag verspreidt zich als een onstilbare virus<\/h2>\n<p>Al jarenlang Liam de populairste jongensnaam in Nederland, en de cijfers liegen niet: meer dan 1.400 pasgeborenen werden in 2022 met deze naam beklad. Maar laten we eerlijk zijn\u2014elk kind dat Liam heet, zal op de basisschool minstens drie andere Liams in zijn klas treffen. De individualiteit die ouders claimen na te streven, is een wassen neus. Het is een canon van middelmatigheid, een manifestatie van de kuddegedachte die onze samenleving al jaren plaagt. En de voorspelling? Liam zal ook in 2026 nog bovenaan staan, want de menselijke luiheid kent geen grenzen.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Julia: De incarnatie van generieke middelmatigheid<\/h2>\n<p>Julia is voor meisjes wat Liam is voor jongens: een baken van saaiheid. Meer dan 1.100 meisjes werden in 2022 Julia genoemd, en het enige dat deze naam symboliseert is de onbegrepen hoop van ouders op een soort van klasse die simpelweg niet bestaat. De naam is zo generiek dat het eigenlijk geen naam meer is\u2014het is een statistische categorie. En toch blijven ouders deze naam kiezen, zoals zombies die zich niet kunnen verzetten tegen de aantrekkingskracht van het banale.<\/p>\n<h2>3. De stijging van internationale namen: Cultuurverlies als strategie<\/h2>\n<p>Steeds meer ouders kiezen voor &#8220;internationale&#8221; namen\u2014namen die in zowel Londen als New York als Laren pronounced kunnen worden. But let&#8217;s be honest: dit is geen cosmopolitisme, het is culturele capitulatie. Als je kind in de top 10 voorkomt, is de kans statistisch gezien bijna 100% dat het op school met meerdere kinderen met dezelfde naam in aanraking komt. De overeenkomsten met een feitelijke kinderfabriek zijn onmiskenbaar. De SVB-publicaties zijn geen viering van diversiteit, maar een triest manifest van onze collectieve creativiteitscrisis.<\/p>\n<h2>5. De terugkeer van oude namen: Nostalgie als vlucht<\/h2>\n<p>Er is een merkwaardige trend van ouders die namen uit de jaren &#8217;50 en &#8217;60 nieuw leven inblazen. Denk aan namen zoals Piet, Jan, en Truus. Maar wat lijkt op een romantische terugkeer naar het verleden, is in werkelijkheid een vlucht naar een fantasiebeeld dat nooit bestaan heeft. De jaren &#8217;50 waren geen gouden tijdperk\u2014ze waren een periode van sociale repressie en culturele armoede. Door onze kinderen deze namen te geven, projecteren we onze onvervulde verlangens op de volgende generatie. Het is egocentrisch en moreel twijfelachtig.<\/p>\n<h2>6. De ongelofelijke voorspelbaarheid van regioverschillen<\/h2>\n<p>De statistieken laten een schrijnend patroon zien: in de Bijlmer zijn namen als Jayden en Dana populair, terwijl in Bloemendaal ouders vallen voor Arthur en Charlotte. De beroemd-beruchte &#8220;postcode-loterij&#8221; manifesteert zich nu ook in de naamgeving van onze kinderen. Het is een levend bewijs van de sociale segregatie die we als samenleving pretenden te bestrijden. De cijfers liegen niet: je achtergrond bepaalt voor meer dan 90% de naam die je kind krijgt. Class is still very much alive, en het wordt genadeloos gecodificeerd in de geboorteakte.<\/p>\n<h2>7. De ontnuchterende statistiek van &#8220;unieke&#8221; namen<\/h2>\n<p>Steeds meer ouders beweren dat hun kind een &#8220;unieke&#8221; naam heeft. Maar de cijfers van de SVB vertellen een ander verhaal: wat &#8220;uniek&#8221; lijkt, is vaak slechts een variant op een bestaande trend. Neem de spellingvariaties: een &#8220;Sophie&#8221; wordt &#8220;Sofie&#8221;, een &#8220;Liam&#8221; wordt &#8220;Liamm&#8221;. Het is niet creatief\u2014het is ordinaire onzin. En statistisch gezien is de kans dat een kind echt uniek genoemd wordt kleiner dan 0.01%. De rest is pure fantasie.<\/p>\n<h2>9. De verborgen impact van naamgeving op toekomstperspectief<\/h2>\n<p>Onderzoek uit de Verenigde Staten toont aan dat mensen met traditionele, &#8220;blank klinkende&#8221; namen meer kans hebben op een sollicitatiegesprek dan mensen met &#8220;etnisch klinkende&#8221; namen, zelfs bij gelijke kwalificaties. Hoewel Nederland geen directe vergelijking is, suggereren de cijfers een vergelijkbare, zij het subtiele, bias. De naam die je als ouder kiest, kan de economische en sociale kansen van je kind be\u00efnvloeden. Het is een morele verantwoordelijkheid die we liever negeren, maar de statistieken dwingen ons om under ogen te zien.<\/p>\n<h2>10. De ultieme triestheid: Naamstatistieken als spiegel van onze samenleving<\/h2>\n<p>Als we de lijsten met populairste namen serieus nemen, zien we een beklemmende spiegel van onze samenleving: we zijn bang voor afwijking, we zoeken bevestiging in de groep, en we zijn bang voor culturele eigenheid. De naamgeving van onze kinderen is geen uiting van liefde, maar van angst\u2014de angst om anders te zijn, de angst om op te vallen, de angst om niet bij de groep te horen. En het meest trieste van alles? We doen dit onszelf aan, jaar na jaar, generatie na generatie.
